Eights Outfits With A Black Trench Coat

My absolute favorite piece of outerwear is a trench coat. It’s effortlessly chic but also exceedingly versatile. I wear my trench coats mostly in the spring and fall seasons layered with my favorite basics like sweaters, tees, button downs, and sweatshirts. I can’t recommend them enough for your wardrobe! In this post, I have eight outfits with a black trench coat for your style inspiration.

I have a few trench coats in the classic tan and camel colors, but I also love a black trench coat as well. I do think, however, that they can be a bit more tricky to style. Black is more heavy and can make an outfit look disproportionate if not styled quite right. My tip for this is to wear another piece in black on your bottom half to balance it like a black shoe or black bottoms.

The black trench coat I’m styling today is from Darling, and it’s really well made. It’s made of a soft but structured twill fabric. This layered look combines a tee with a trench coat and a sweater worn over the shoulders. I like how the beige sweater adds a little contrast to the black trench coat and tee.

This outfit is classic Parisian with it’s striped tee, black tapered pant, and mary jane ballet flats. These pants are from Everlane, and they are trés comfortable with an elastic waist and sweatpant feel.

Try pairing a classic button down with a trench coat for a smart casual outfit. You could wear this to a casual office, although, I’d feel comfortable in it any old day.

For a classic look, pair your black trench coat with your favorite sweater (any color would work!), a great pair of jeans, and some heeled ankle boots.

I love the look of a hoodie paired with a trench coat, something about that hood popping out the back is just COOL I added a classic straight leg jean in a washed black and my go-to classic New Balance sneakers.
