A trench coat is a must have for my fall and spring wardrobes. I bought my first trench coat 3 years ago and haven’t looked back. I wear mine for almost any occasion from casual to dressy.
I recently decided to invest in a water resistant raincoat since we moved to the Pacific Northwest, and it rains frequently here. The Sézane Scott Trench Coat has been on my wishlist for awhile now and with cooler weather arriving fast, I decided to invest in this piece. Sézane has become one of my favorite brands to shop at for chic Parisian style wardrobe essentials. So much of my wardrobe is from Sézane! The quality and design of everything is just unmatched.
In this post, I’m going to be doing a full review of the Sézane Scott Trench Coat including fit and sizing and my overall impressions. Note that while I do receive a credit from Sézane on a monthly basis, this blog post is not sponsored. I have purchased many pieces from Sézane with my own money and really love the brand.
Review of the Sézane Scott Trench Coat

Material Composition
The Sézane Scott Trench Coat’s outer shell is made of 100% organic cotton while the inner lining is 50% acetate, 50% viscose. As I mentioned earlier, the outer fabric is a water resistant material. I did test the material out in the rain after receiving it, and while I wouldn’t wear this in a downpour or for long periods in the rain, it did keep me dry in moderately rainy weather. It’s also worth noting that it doesn’t have a hood, so if it were raining, you might also need to carry an umbrella as well.

As far as manufacturing goes, I think it is important to point out that Sézane produces their clothing in audited factories, and this particular piece is made within the European Union.
Features of the Sézane Scott Trench Coat

The Sézane Scott Trench Coat has button tabs on the shoulders and cuffs, as well as a belt you can tie around your waist. Usually, I tie my belt in the back and let it hang, but this strap is short enough that I prefer to just let it hang to the sides when I’m wearing my trench coat unbuttoned. It has a wide collar and notched lapels along with three buttons on the left side and one button on the right (so you can button it either way.)

One of my favorite features is the slit in the back that can be buttoned or unbuttoned. I just think this gives the trench a little more ‘swing’ to it and adds to its effortlessly chic vibe.

Fit & Sizing
The sizing note on Sézane’s website recommends to size down if you are in between sizes but otherwise to take your normal size. After reading reviews, I actually decided to take my larger size. I am usually a 0 or 2 at Sézane, and I went with the 2. I will the say the shoulders at this size fit sightly wide, but this allows layering thick sweaters underneath. If you prefer a fitted look, take your normal size, but if you plan on layering under this trench coat, I would recommend sizing up. Just a note that, for me, the sleeves are a little long at this size.
As far as length goes, This trench coat falls just at my calves. This is probably my only complaint with this trench. I wish it was slightly longer as that feels more on trend. Because of the material it also fits more structured and less drapey as well. It has a very classic trench coat fit rather than that trendy oversized style you’ve probably seen on Pinterest.

Overall Impressions
At $305, this is definitely an investment piece for me; however, because it is SUCH good quality and has a very classic silhouette, this trench coat is definitely worth the price tag and can be worn for years to come. If you are looking for something that is more ‘trendy’ (i.e. longer with an oversized drapey fit) than you may want to skip this one.
I’ll definitely be wearing the Sézane Scott Trench Coat all fall and spring. I love how versatile it is and how it elevates any look. You could literally put this trench coat on top of any outfit from trousers and denim to leggings or sweatpants. In short, I would definitely recommend the Sézane Scott Trench Coat for those looking for a high quality timeless style.
