How To Style Clogs

Clogs have been majorly trending for the past several years. Although they look ever so comfortable and would actually be perfect footwear for #momlife, I didn’t think they quite fit my personal style. However, I recently did some content creation for Rothy’s Shoes (unrelated to this post) and as part of that campaign, I shot some looks with their Casual Clog. Afterwards, I found myself reaching for these shoes multiple times each week especially for school drop-offs, grocery store runs, or daily walks. They are easy to slip on, super comfortable and have excellent arch support. As it goes, the rest of the story is history. I’ve officially been converted to the clog!

In this post, I’m sharing a few ways to style clogs. There are several brands that make their own versions, the most well-known being the Birkenstock Clog. Including this pair from Rothy’s that’s made of merino wool, I’ve linked a few options below to shop at different price points.

How To Style Clogs

Clogs work so well for casual days. I’ve been styling mine with all my laid back pieces like shackets, sweatshirts, and hoodies. However, as I’ve mentioned in previous posts, versatility is very important to me when it comes to my wardrobe so I’ve sourced a few more dressier ways to style clogs from others below.

As of writing this post, we are entering the winter season so I recommend adding a pair of slouchy socks to make this shoe seasonally appropriate.

With A Shacket and Jeans

For fall or mild winter days, try pairing your clogs with a shacket, layered to your preference, with a slim straight leg jean for a weekend look that is cool but comfortable. This style could easily be converted for winter by adding a wool overcoat and chunky socks.

With A Hoodie and Wool Coat

I will never tire of adding an oversized wool coat over all my casual outfits to make them more polished and elevated. You could try this look with a baggier, full length jean if you’re up for it.

Clog Outfit Inspiration

Below are a few select clog outfits from other stylish women that would be easy to recreate as well with pieces from your closet.

For a more elevated look, try pairing your clogs with a blazer; bonus points for adding a textural note with a sweater of the shoulders.

Cozy and Tonal

These shoes are a bit difficult to style in a polished way, but any outfit looks more chic in monochromatic tones. Try sticking to tonal tans and whites that pair well with your clogs. I also love how this look is more balanced with the addition of a feminine cardigan as clogs can look quite clunky.

With a Pop of Color

For minimal styling with a twist, try wearing your clogs with mostly neutral tones and add a pop of color. In the photo above, cobalt blue pairs nicely with denim and black tones, but I also think the very on trend red would look lovely with tan or brown clogs.

How To Dress Up Clogs

This style of knit clog seen above plays much more casually and doesn’t match well with more dressy outfits. If your personal style is more elegant and feminine, try a pair of heeled leather clogs instead. I’ve linked a few more options in this category below. Leave it to the Parisians to make clogs and leggings look chic!

Thank you for all your amazing reviews. They are so detailed and helpful. I wonder if you could share how tall you are? I am 5’ 3” and wonder how some Sezane blazers and trench coats might work for me. Thank you!
